WINTER SHOW AUDITIONS

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike   by Christopher Durang, directed by Kelly Seip

Audition dates: December 8 and 9 at 700PM

Plot synopsis:
Vanya and Sonia have given up the best part of their lives caring for their parents: former English professors with a love of Chekhov, who were sadly stricken with Alzheimer's at the end.

Upon their parents’ deaths, Vanya and Sonia are without purpose or direction.  Their movie star sister Masha (who owns the house and pays the bills, while living the glamorous life elsewhere) arrives for a visit.

Well aware that she is aging (and fighting it as hard as she can), Masha returns with her current handsome young boy-toy Spike.  Her arrival causes old family resentments to resurface.  She claims to have come back to attend a star-studded local costume party, but is actually planning to announce that she is selling the farmhouse, and wants to place Vanya and Sonia in an apartment!

The family’s devoted clairvoyant housekeeper Cassandra tries to intervene, with hilarious results.

And just when things just couldn’t get any more complicated, the family is befriended by young, beautiful, talented neighbor Nina, who also gets drawn into the fantastic family mayhem.  Much drama, chaos, and comedy ensue!

Setting: Early 21st century, farmhouse in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
